Today I received a very official looking email
from M&I Bank stating the following: (notice the misspelled words in
red and mibank not capitalized.
Security and
Indefinitely is misspelled throughout the document. If
you receive email requesting personal information of any kind NEVER
EVER respond. Make copies of the email including properties, which
sometimes is a lead to where email actually originated. Call
the institution via a known good number (do not call any numbers
listed in the email) Banking - Financial Institutions do
not solicit personal information via email. Any emails doing so,
are an invitation to ID Theft! One last time
NEVER DIVULGE PERSONAL INFORMATION via email. Note this
type of thing has been going on with PayPal for quite sometime.
Now these criminals are going after other institutions. Senior
Citizens are a prime target due to a lot of their retirement funds,
investments and such, are all done at their local banks. Keep
in mind the following
1. The sites look authentic, they have been
pirated and recoded, so that when an unsuspecting person fills out
the info, it is immediately forwarded to the criminals email.
2. Within seconds they can access your account
and take you to the cleaners.
3. Once again, when in doubt drop in to your
bank in person or call a known good number.
* Please pass this
important report to everyone you know.
